Around 2 hours flying time from the UK, Menorca is located south of France (almost directly beneath Marseille), to the east of Spain’s Costa Brava (in fact Es Castell is Spain’s most easterly town).

 

Sicily is to the east and Algeria to the south.

 

This central location in the western Mediterranean explains why it has been a location of such historic importance for the British, French and Spanish

 

It’s proximity to the Sahara can be seen on occasions as rain brought from the south often carries ‘red’ dust from the desert.
